Copyright in Detail
This section provides a comprehensive breakdown of copyright ownership as it applies to the various types of content found on vtu-easy.com.
All original content on VTU Easy — including explanatory text, study guides, cheat code formats and structure, website design and layout, user interface elements, original graphics and illustrations, navigation architecture, and written commentary — is copyright of the VTU Easy team. Year of first publication: 2023. All rights reserved except as expressly noted in this document. This copyright protection arises automatically under the Indian Copyright Act, 1957, upon creation of the original work, without any requirement for registration.
Syllabuses, question papers, examination timetables, academic calendars, and other formal academic documents published by Visvesvaraya Technological University are official documents of a statutory university established by the Government of Karnataka under the Visvesvaraya Technological University Act, 1994. These official governmental and educational documents are publicly accessible information under the principles of the Right to Information Act, 2005, and the Indian Open Government Data (OGD) Policy. VTU Easy reproduces these documents — or derives content from them — to help students access publicly available academic information more conveniently and in a better-organised format. We do not claim copyright over VTU's official documents.
While the underlying academic content of official VTU documents belongs to VTU as a public institution, our specific presentation, organisation, navigation structure, visual design, annotations, summaries, and any original commentary we add to that content remains our copyright. The way we organise a syllabus, the user interface through which students browse question papers, the cheat code format we devised for quick revision — these original creative expressions are protected. If you wish to use VTU Easy's original presentation or formatting for any purpose beyond personal study, please contact us at vtu.easy@gmail.com for permission.
Unauthorised copying, reproduction, distribution, public display, or creation of derivative works based on VTU Easy's original copyrighted content — including for commercial purposes — may constitute copyright infringement under the Indian Copyright Act, 1957, and may result in civil and/or criminal liability. We actively monitor for content theft and will take appropriate legal action where necessary to protect our intellectual property.
Open Source Components & Licences
VTU Easy is built using several open-source components. In accordance with the terms of those licences, we provide the following attribution and licence information:
Icons used throughout the VTU Easy interface are sourced from Font Awesome 6 Free, developed and maintained by Fonticons, Inc. Font Awesome Free is licenced under the following terms: Icons — CC BY 4.0 (Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International); Fonts — SIL OFL 1.1 (SIL Open Font Licence 1.1); Code — MIT Licence. The CC BY 4.0 licence requires attribution, which is provided here. Full Font Awesome licence text is available at fontawesome.com/license/free.
VTU Easy uses the Sora typeface (designed by Jonathan Barnbrook) and the Space Mono typeface (designed by Colophon Foundry), both served via Google Fonts. Both typefaces are licenced under the SIL Open Font Licence 1.1 (OFL), which permits free use, modification, and distribution — including in commercial projects — provided the font is not sold by itself. The OFL is one of the most permissive open-source font licences in use. Full licence text is available at scripts.sil.org/OFL.
Any JavaScript libraries used in the VTU Easy codebase are licenced under either the MIT Licence or the Apache Licence 2.0, as specified in their respective package documentation. Both the MIT and Apache 2.0 licences are permissive open-source licences that allow free use, modification, and distribution with minimal restrictions. We are grateful to the open-source community for providing these tools freely — they underpin modern web development and make projects like VTU Easy possible without significant infrastructure costs.
DMCA / Copyright Complaint Process
VTU Easy respects intellectual property rights and takes copyright compliance seriously. If you believe that any content on vtu-easy.com infringes a copyright that you own or control, you may submit a takedown request following the process described below, which is consistent with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) procedures widely used internationally.
Send an email to vtu.easy@gmail.com with the subject line "DMCA Takedown Request." Your request must include all of the following elements to be valid and actionable:
- Your full legal name and contact information (email address and postal address)
- A description of the copyrighted work that you claim has been infringed
- The specific URL or URLs on vtu-easy.com where the allegedly infringing material appears
- A statement that you have a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law
- A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notification is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on behalf of the copyright owner
- Your physical or electronic signature
Upon receiving a valid, complete takedown request, we aim to respond within 72 hours. If the claim is valid, we will remove or disable access to the allegedly infringing content promptly. If you believe that a takedown request was filed in error or that the removed content was not infringing, you may send a counter-notice to vtu.easy@gmail.com explaining why you believe the content should be restored. We will review all counter-notices in good faith.
Trademark & Brand Usage
"VTU Easy," "vtu-easy.com," and the VTU Easy logo are unregistered trademarks of the VTU Easy team, protected under the common law of trademarks and passing off in India. While formal registration may be pursued in the future, the lack of registered trademark status does not diminish the protections available under Indian law against misuse.
You may refer to VTU Easy by name in factual, informational contexts — for example, in a blog post saying "I use VTU Easy to study for my VTU exams" or in a social media post recommending the platform. You may not: create websites, applications, or services that use "VTU Easy" or "vtu-easy" in their name or domain name; use our logo or visual branding to imply that your product or service is affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with VTU Easy; create social media accounts, YouTube channels, WhatsApp groups, or Telegram channels that impersonate VTU Easy or create the impression of official affiliation; or use our name or brand in any way that could mislead users about the origin of a product or service.
"VTU" in "VTU Easy" refers to Visvesvaraya Technological University, a statutory government university established under the Government of Karnataka. Our use of "VTU" in our platform name is purely descriptive — it indicates that our content relates to the VTU curriculum and is intended for VTU students. It does not imply any affiliation with, endorsement by, or official connection to Visvesvaraya Technological University. VTU Easy is an independent, student-run platform and has no formal relationship with the university.
