About the VTU 2022 Scheme Exam Timetable

The timetable above is the official VTU Semester End Examination (SEE) schedule for students enrolled under the 2022 CBCS scheme. This scheme covers students from the 2022–23 admission batch onwards across all engineering branches including CSE, ECE, EEE, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, AIDS, AI&ML, ISE, Chemical, Biotechnology, and Aerospace Engineering.

Who this timetable applies to: If you joined a VTU-affiliated engineering college in or after the 2022–23 academic year, you are on the 2022 CBCS scheme. Check your admission year or ask your college examination coordinator to confirm your scheme. The 2022 scheme timetable covers odd semesters (I, III, V, VII) in November–December and even semesters (II, IV, VI, VIII) in May–June each academic year.

Exam timing: VTU SEE papers under the 2022 scheme are typically conducted in two sessions — morning (9:30 AM to 12:30 PM) and afternoon (2:00 PM to 5:00 PM). Check your hall ticket for the exact session for each of your subjects. Arriving at least 30 minutes before the paper starts is strongly recommended — late entry after papers are distributed may be refused.

Subject codes on the timetable: Each row in the timetable corresponds to a unique subject code. 2022 scheme subject codes follow the format 22XXNNNN — where XX is the branch abbreviation and NNNN is the subject number. Verify that your hall ticket's subject codes match the dates on this timetable before every exam. Discrepancies must be resolved with your college examination cell.

How to Build Your Study Plan Using This Timetable

The timetable is your most important planning tool for exam season. Here is a complete strategy for using it to build an effective study plan for the 2022 scheme.

Step 1 — Print or save the timetable: Download or screenshot this timetable as soon as VTU announces it. Write the exam dates for your specific subjects on a physical calendar or a notes app. Having dates visible daily creates natural time pressure that motivates consistent preparation.

Step 2 — Calculate days available per subject: For each of your subjects, count the total days from today until that exam date. Subtract the days when you have other exams (you cannot study for subject B on the day subject A's exam falls). This gives you the real number of days available per subject.

Step 3 — Allocate days based on difficulty and CIE performance: Subjects where your CIE score was 35+ (out of 50): 3–4 study days. Subjects where your CIE was 25–34: 4–5 days. Subjects where your CIE was below 25 or you found very challenging: 5–7 days. Never allocate equal days to all subjects — personalise your schedule based on your actual preparation level.

Step 4 — Module-per-day approach: Each VTU subject has 5 modules. If you have 5 study days, do one module per day. If you have 7 days, do two modules in the first two days (the easier ones) and one module per day for the rest. Step 5 — Reserve the last study day before any exam for revision only: Never start new topics the day before an exam. Understanding the Question Paper Format

VTU 2022 scheme SEE papers follow a consistent structure. Part A contains 10 short-answer questions (2 marks each, 20 marks total) — one or two from each of the 5 modules. Part B contains 5 questions (10 marks each, 50 marks total) — one question per module, each with an internal choice between Question A and Question B. Total: 70 marks (30 marks come from CIE + 50 from SEE, but the SEE paper itself is typically out of 50 for the exam portion). Note: the exact format may vary slightly between subjects — always check the pattern from previous year papers for your specific subject.

Part A Strategy (Short Answers)

Part A questions are 2-mark questions that test breadth of knowledge across all modules. They typically ask for definitions, short explanations, or specific values. Strategy: answer all Part A questions first in the first 45–50 minutes. For 2-mark questions, 3–5 lines is the right length — do not over-explain. If unsure about a Part A question, give the closest definition or explanation you know and move on. Never spend more than 5 minutes on a single 2-mark question.

Part B Strategy (Long Answers)

Part B questions are 10-mark questions requiring detailed answers, derivations, or diagrams. Each module typically has two options — choose the one you know better, but read both options before deciding. Structure your Part B answers clearly: use sub-headings for multi-part questions, include a properly labelled diagram for any topic that has one, number your steps in derivations. A well-organised answer consistently earns more marks than the same content written in an unorganised paragraph format.

Diagram Tips

Diagrams earn significant partial marks even when the written explanation is incomplete. Always draw diagrams with a pencil and ruler (not freehand). Label every component with a proper name — not just a number or symbol. Give the diagram a title. Even a rough but labelled diagram earns more marks than no diagram. For ECE subjects: circuit diagrams, block diagrams for communication systems, and characteristics curves are high-priority. For ME subjects: P-V diagrams, T-s diagrams, velocity and force diagrams. For Civil subjects: structural drawings, pressure diagrams, force diagrams. For EEE subjects: phasor diagrams, circuit configurations, machine equivalent circuits.

Time Management in the Exam Hall

Total time: 3 hours (180 minutes). Recommended allocation: Part A — 50 minutes (5 minutes per question on average). Part B — 110 minutes (22 minutes per module's answer). Review and additions — 20 minutes. If you finish Part B early, use remaining time to add diagrams you initially skipped, expand incomplete explanations, and check Part A answers. Never leave the hall early — extra time is always better spent improving existing answers than sitting idle.

2022 Scheme Subject-Wise Exam Preparation Guide

Engineering Mathematics (21MAT11/21MAT21/21MAT31): Mathematics exams reward consistent practice over memorisation. Focus on: understanding the type of problem and selecting the right technique (not just applying formulas blindly), writing derivations with all intermediate steps shown (marks are awarded for steps, not just the final answer), and practising a minimum of 10–15 problems per topic before the exam. Do not skip modules — every module appears in the exam and has equal weightage.

Physics / Chemistry (22PHY12/22CHE12): These are 1st and 2nd semester subjects that form the foundation for all higher-semester content. Focus on: key laws and theorems (with exact statement, not paraphrase), derivations for all important formulas, numerical problems (practise both standard and applied-type), and laboratory concepts (these appear as short-answer questions regularly).

Engineering Graphics (22EGD16): This subject requires extensive drawing practice — reading about drawing techniques is not sufficient. Practise orthographic projections, isometric views, and development of surfaces by drawing, not reading. Practise until you can reproduce standard problems within the exam time allocation. Speed comes from practice repetition, not conceptual knowledge alone.

Branch-specific theory subjects (from 3rd semester): Use the three-phase preparation approach: Full module notes (weeks before), previous year paper analysis (1–2 weeks before), and cheat code revision (final 24–48 hours). For subjects involving significant derivations (like Signals and Systems, Thermodynamics, or Control Systems), practise writing derivations from memory — not reading them and assuming you know them.

Lab subjects: Lab internal marks are awarded throughout the semester for record maintenance, viva performance during regular labs, and lab tests. For the final external viva: know the theory behind every experiment you performed, be ready to explain the procedure and expected results, prepare for questions about error sources and precautions. External examiners often focus on conceptual understanding rather than procedural memorisation.
